ATS Faar has a complete line of melt flow Indexers (MFI) and apparatus for measuring gravimetric MFR. All units comply with standard: ASTM D 1238, ISO 1133 and the similar.
With the melt flow indexers the heated material is extruded, manually cut at regular intervals and weighed on an analytical balance to obtain the melt flow rate (MFR).
Main specifications
· PID action electronic thermo-regulator, microprocessor controlled, with digital display and resolution of 0.1°C
· Keyboard for temperature setting and data input
· Operating temperature range : 50°÷400°C (optionally available to +450°C)
· Thermal stability within ± 0.2°C of the set temperature in the testing area
The standard equipment includes steel piston and die in strict accordance with standards, set of tools for sample loading and for manual cleaning of all parts involved in the testing. Masses only shall be selected according to actual test loads.
ATS Faar has three Extrusion Plastometers, Melt Index Tester (M.F.I.) models to choose from:
* Basic Model – Gravimetric Measurement – Manual Cutting. This equipment is necessary to determine the Melt Flow Rate of thermoplastic materials basing on Gravimetric System and according to ASTM D 1238, ASTM D 2116, ASTM D 3364, BS 2782/105 C (part. 7, meth. A), AFNOR 51/016., DIN 53735, UNI EN ISO 1133
* TWELVindex medium level model – volumetric / gravimetric measurement Automatic cutting – with automatic cutting device and serial interface. This instrument complies with the volumetric determination method (MVI) and is also electronically operated by a system that calculates volume of the extruded material by detecting the travel of plunger in a known time. A Microprocessor acquires and processes data and determines the M.F.R. result and 12 additional acquisitions automatically. These values are shown on a display close to the keyboard.
* MeP higher level model – volumetric / gravimetric measurement automatic cutting – other measurements when suitably equipped. The instrument complies with the Volumetric Determination Method (M.V.I.), by means of an electronic transducer that measures the plunger travel, in order to attain the volume of the extruded material along a known time. A microprocessor acquires data and calculates M.F.R. (Melt Flow Rate) values - 10 or 40 determinations -, basing on program settings. All values are shown on a LED display on the control keyboard. Through a dedicated software (option code 0010020), the equipment runs Rheological determinations - up to a 21.600 kg max. load – and calculates thermal degradation of the product under test. At last, it is possible to run gravimetric M.F.R. determinations (ASTM D 1238 meth. A with the aid of the built-in automatic cutting device. The extruded material is to be subsequently weighed by an analytical balance.
